I sent this yesterday to what I thought was your e-mail address, and received a could not deliver message, so will try sending it here

I ran across your name in RootsWeb.com and I believe I have sent you information on our family in the past. The information on my dad James Absalom is from my files.

I don't remember, and possibly never had information about your relationship, but with the name John D., my grandfathers name was John David, I'm curious about where you fit in with the myriad of Ashbaughs.

Recently, in March, we were in Loveland, CO and found the name Ashbaugh in the phone book, actually three listings, and I am sending them a letter introducing myself in an attempt to see if they are relatives. We also just completed a trip to Philadelphia, and visited Mountjoy Township in Adams County, and Huntingdon, early hangouts of our ancestor.

Have you uncovered any information on the origin of Johann. Our son (also John) found a villiage of Eschbach in the Rhineland-Palitinate area of Western Germany, in the wine country. If Johann and sons were distillers and potters, that woud fit. The pottery making obviously a necessity to accomodate the products of distillation.

Hope to hear from you, and I'll let you know what I find out from the folks in Colorado.

Jim Ashbaugh
